Bunny Brunel has been nonstop. From a 54-city tour in Japan with Georges Moustaki, to music directing Michel Polnareff’s 44-city tour—culminating in a historic performance at the Eiffel Tower before an audience of over three million, a world record—his trajectory has been nothing short of extraordinary. Along the way came pivotal connections, including Patrick Moraz, who introduced Brunel (who was the MD for Tania Maria) to Chick Corea—though not necessarily in that order.
Just as Brunel found his stride working with Chick, his longtime friend Tony Williams was blazing his own trail with Lifetime, helping redefine the direction of modern jazz. At the same time, artists such as Al Di Meola and Al Jarreau were globe-hopping, sharing stages with Brunel before audiences around the world. What followed were collaborations with the likes of Wayne Shorter and Herbie Hancock, as well as a Grammy Awards performance alongside them, including Jack DeJohnette and Natalie Cole, and later, Stevie Wonder.
This momentum led to further collaborations, including L.A. Zoo, and ultimately to his Grammy-nominated band, CAB. And he’s been off to the races ever since.
